As an SE person who is now doing his own jewelry website while still doing SEO clients, I might throw in this tidbit.
Regarding your tag on the home page, ditch the pipes “|” between your products. Use a comma “,” instead. Why? Each change will save you 1 space (comma usage only requires 2 while pipes require 3) and after 13 years of doing this plus reading the Google engineer’s blogs, they say the indexing algorithm has better success with commas.
One other point – the tag is the first place to tell the search engines what this page is about (not your entire site necessarily) so limiting it to 2 or a max of 3 targeted keyword phrases per page gives you a much better chance at ranking well for them. The more you put in there, the more diluted each keyword has in the overall (100%) importance. Remember that we use the to tell the search engines when they index the page what we think are the things we want to rank for.
I believe your syntax is incorrect for the keywords and description META tags. Below is what I knwo to be the correct format.
And like your tag, don’t try to cram too many keywords in there. The search engines that do still apply keywords to their indexing penalize you somewhat if a used keyword is not in “text” on that page.
Remember, every page should be targeted for different KW phrases so they can individually have a chance to rank for themselves while giving you exponentially better odds at ranking uniquely.
Hope that helps and that you don’t take offense. None was intended.
Doug
Thanks very much for the much needed info!
i shall put it to use.

Hi Littleaton,
You answered a question for me so I thought I’d take a look at your blog which led me to your store. I just took a quick look so far, but from a design point of view I have 2 comments: I find the drop shadow on the homepage rotating products text makes the text difficult to read. Also, as someone reaching your store having no idea what I was going to see, it wasn’t immediately apparent to me what kind of store it is. Perhaps this is a personal preference but I like when I can quickly and easily know what kind of store it is. I do like the green text that says “Littleaton.com is Your Electronics Super Webstore!” but perhaps it needs a more prominent location because I didn’t see it for a while. (I am a bit bleary eyed at this point in the night though!)
Overall I thought the site was easy to use, and pleasant to look at. I like your phrase “Almost Free” and have never seen a pillow speaker before.
Is it a Big Commerce store?
Su-Ling
Nope actually this is my Amazon Webstore, but i am slowly working on getting my Big Commerce store up. It will still be a few months or so, im wating on BC 5.6 Update, as there are some features in there that i need before i can go live.
But im excited to get BC going, it will help so much!
Thanks for your input and ideas, ill work them into my BC plans!
Comments are always appreciated
Thanks alot!
Aaron
Hi,
Really am impressed with your site. You’ve done some nice work. Just a few thoughts for what it’s worth (if anything). The initial “clamor or clutter” of your home page gives me the impression of a volume discounter who probably doesn’t care much about me as a customer. Much like the old “Crazy Eddie” electronics discounter in New Jersey some years ago. Now I know that’s not how you want me to feel because I read your “About Us” page and I thought it was fantastic! So I think if you could incorporate those goals on your home page and make me (the customer) feel important to you (the business), than I would feel much more comfortable with your organization, and much more inclined to purchase from you.
Also, just in visual design terms, I would try to make the home page more focused, streamlined, and less of an information/sensory overload (I think Su-Ling alludes to that).
I too loved your “Almost Free” category. I feel you have a real entrepreneurial instinct, and you will do very well in your endeavors! Just stay focused on your customers!
One last thing I’d like to mention. The article “a” should not be used preceding a word that begins with a vowel (or vowel sound). So it should be “life of an eCommerce Entrepreneur,” “my store is an ongoing project,” and “just added an almost free.” I know it’s nit-picky, but what would you expect from an English major?
I know you will be successful because you seem persistent and persevering, and you have a great attitude! All the best to you!
Mike
Thank you very much, any input is good input!
Ill put this all to use, thanks so much!
